Law Society slams jailed Qld lawyer

The president of Queensland’s Law Society says former solicitor Tim Meehan’s conviction on fraud charges undermines the reputation of all legal professionals in the state.

Meehan was sentenced in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday to five and a half years’ jail on charges of fraud and falsifying records.

Queensland Law Society president Christine Smyth said Meehan’s criminality brought into disrepute the “otherwise good reputation of Queensland’s 11,000 hard-working and ethical solicitors” and she was confident the crimes were an isolated case.
