The cost of a funeral is but one of many issues that need review. Many people are unaware that it’s not friends or family who have the legal responsibility of arranging the funeral. Our legal system dictates it is the Executor or Administrator of the estate who has the legal right to decide on the funeral. This rule of law (of English origin) can have a significant negative impact in terms of cultural and religious practices in our diverse society, especially on our First Nations community.
